Purpose

Importance

This indicator aims to measure the number of implemented social innovations (new services, approaches, etc.) that improve livelihood or employability.

Definition

  • Innovative solution: new approach, idea, or method that addresses a particular problem in a creative and effective way. It involves thinking outside the box and introducing new concepts. It can be social and / or digital.

  • Digital solution: when this solution involves technologies to tackle challenges.

  • Livelihoods: strategies that people use to utilize, and transfer assets to produce income today and deal with problems tomorrow. These strategies change and adapt in response to various shocks, external influences, institutional norms and rules, and other factors. (réf:  Glossary - Livelihoods Centre)

  • Employability:  set of achievements – skills, understandings, and personal attributes – that makes graduates more likely to gain employment.

What do we count?

Tdh count solutions (approaches, models of action, new services). 

How to calculate the indicator's value

This is the sum of all pieces recorded over the year from 1st of January to 31st of December.

Data sources

Studies, publications, project data, activity reports.

Data collection methods and tools

Ongoing collection according to the testing and piloting of these solutions.

This indicator is to be collected at regional and global level.

Limitations and precautions

Proving the benefits of the given pilot might require conducting a survey that involves a control group, enabling you to assess the actual benefits brought by the new service or approach.

What further analysis are we interested in?

  • Learning from the ideation, prototyping, and testing process

  • How much this solution could be replicable in other contexts and what would be needed to adapt it to other contexts?

  • Is this solution sustainable outside Tdh?

  • To which degree this solution is owned by the communities?
